Ellen Glonti commented on the blog post Witzke documentary on Downtown Shopping 1 year, 2 months ago
I think it’s a good selection of images. They perfectly match speaker’s words. I thought that the photographs of department stores (Higbee’s, Bono’s, May etc), street cars and two children window shopping perfectly match the story. I would like to mention a very well used Ken Burn’s effect on the image of streetcars.

Ellen Glonti commented on the blog post Sanchez documentary on Central Market 1 year, 2 months ago
The clip is very interesting. The market and transport sounds create an atmosphere of a lively market. I also liked the transition when the speaker talks about public transportation and a street with buses and cars is shown. When the speaker talks about fresh products, the close-up of market products appears on the screen and [...]

I liked the clip. I think the images exactly match speaker’s words. The good point is to give the name to the clip “A short street of big thrillsâ€. The intro (text) is very good and gives a short, but informative note of what the clip is about. I also think you have a good [...]

Ellen Glonti commented on the blog post November 23: The National Park Service as a Public History Agency 1 year, 2 months ago
The evolution of National Park Service was a complicated many-stage process. On the 50th anniversary, Director Conrad Wirth responded to the problems of the Service by a ten-year program that was endorsed by Eisenhower and included upgrade of the facilities and staff. This program, Mission 66, was continued by Wirth’s successor, George Hartzog…[Read more]

When I looked through the “Weekly listâ€, I liked the project of preserving the Wentz Camp in Kay County, Oklahoma. An important part of it that it is a recreational facility with a pool. It would be interesting to preserve the pool constructed between 1928 and 1950s. Usually preservation subjects are single buildings, like houses [...]

Historic preservation is often discussed in modern society. What buildings should be preserved? What are the objects of the first priority? Howard makes a point, that preservation of architectural heritage is a good way to consolidate community and bring diverse crowd together. I think it is especially true about preservation and renovation of…[Read more]

Chapter 1 of “New History of Documentary Film†by Jack Ellis and Betsy McLane is a brief sketch of development of documentary films. The authors argue that purpose of documentaries is to show real events and problems. Often filmmakers aim to educate audience and expect it to react either emotionally or by action to their message. Ellis and…[Read more]

Ellen Glonti commented on the blog post Short Vincent: The one block street , that made millions of memories 1 year, 3 months ago
A very good audio, both informative and interesting. I enjoyed listening to it. I think the images perfectly show the atmosphere of fun that the speaker mentions. I also liked the length of the clip, the speakers finishes his story in a very natural way. I would probably crop out image #2 to hide the [...]

I think the images work well with the narration. A perfect match is a picture of two shoppers, a woman with a boy, when the speaker mentions that he shopped with his mother. A good selection of images. The clip is good, but I felt it was a bit too long.

The clip perfectly goes with the images. I think you did a good job by including a map, which makes the clip very interesting to watch. I also liked the chronological order and how the older images (sketches) gradually change to the modern photos. I liked the last image, it matches the story, but maybe [...]

While I watched the clip, I felt that the images and the text match very well. The length of the clip is sufficient, it’s not too short, so can get the basic idea and not too long to get boring. I think that the idea of capitalism that he talks about could be represented by [...]

“The Patriot” that we watched on Tuesday is a good example of Hollywood history. I do not think we should expect that a Hollywood movie would be close to reality. I least I never expect it. It was interesting to find out that in some aspects the “The Patriot” was historically accurate. The patriotic message can urge people to read about…[Read more]
