A lot of the picutres really hit on what the speaker was saying. The Higby’s, Halle’s and May Company all perfectly hit with when the speaker talked about them. The pictures were all interesting to look at, I almost would have slowed some down so that people can see them better. Good job.

katiecampogni commented on the blog post Vanderpool documentary on Public Square 1 year, 2 months ago

I like that when he started talking about town center, you started the pictures of public square, that worked out really well. I enjoyed the speaker because I could understand what he was saying and I also thought that the pictures went along with what he was saying. I was a little confused at the [...]

The different museums are always different and there are new aspects of history to discover. At the Smithsonian American History Museum, I was there when it first opened two years ago and before it was opened I saw the changes that were made. I had never been there before so I never noticed the comments [...]

katiecampogni commented on the blog post November 23: The National Park Service as a Public History Agency 1 year, 2 months ago

The national parks that started in the west were there to promote wildlife and nature. As the decades moved on those in charge wanted to earn a profit from people coming to the parks, but they had a predominantly eastern population and they discovered that there were not as much natural landscapes as there were [...]

katiecampogni commented on the blog post November 16: Historic Preservation in Practice 1 year, 2 months ago

I thought that the website was very unique in that I did not know much about registering your historic house. It’s good to know the steps that go through the process, how long it takes and what the requirements are. I also like the listing of the houses becuase it was a good tool to [...]

katiecampogni commented on the blog post November 9: A Sense of Place: The Rise of Historic Preservation 1 year, 2 months ago

I have always had an interest in historic preservation and the use of creating “historic downtowns”. I thought that preservation almost always had to deal with history, so I found it interesting that Howard says it often has to deal with people who are looking to future generations and how they will see the past, [...]

I like that you have pictures of the different places you can visit on Short Vincent but I would have liked to see more couples and people going to the bar. I enjoyed the pictures in the beginning with the cars and signs, it gave the idea of a crowded fun place to go to.

the pictures work pretty well, I would have liked to see something with a store front since the speaker talked about it. Overall I thought that the pictures went with the downtown shopping theme and the streetcars getting to and from.

At first, I wasn’t sure if it was going to work but as soon as he started talking about the people I saw with the pictures that it goes together pretty perfectly. I was going to say that you need to add people, but that was not needed after the first clip. I enjoyed looking [...]

katiecampogni commented on the blog post November 2: The City as Storyboard (Continued) 1 year, 3 months ago

“The Power of Place” looks at an urban landscape and informs us on how we should incorporate that into history. The author looks at Los Angeles specifically in showing that women, working class and African Americans primarily made up of the history in this city, but there is not a lot of information on them. katiecampogni commented on the blog post October 26: The City as Museum 1 year, 3 months ago

The book emphasizes the changing economy in Lowell from a blue collar working class, to a capitalistic white collar working class. Stanton used her fieldwork to analyze the shift in not only the type working in Lowell but also how the industrial city was no longer the indisutrial powerhouse that it used to be. As [...]

katiecampogni commented on the blog post October 19: Movie Screening of “The Patriot” 1 year, 3 months ago

Cinematic History is not real history as Historians look at it. There are many imperfections to the realy history, because movie goers want the action, comedy, romance and suspense. They don’t want the accurate history if it is not interesting, to them that makes it boring. There are many movies based loosely on history to [...]

katiecampogni commented on the blog post October 14: Historic House Museums/Slavery & Public History 1 year, 3 months ago

Slavery in historical museums is not a widely broached topic. If it is mentioned, there is ususally a positive spin on the topic, because docents know that it can make people uncomfortable. In the ECR there are a lot of examples of docent led tours where docents talked about how man slaves saw their masters [...]

The beginning needs a different starting point and more infromation is needed on the clip.

I would try to find something more intersting or pull other thoughts to have them all run together to make it a longer clip.
